University of Alabama completes a 1.1 million sf ADA assessment with FOS of CannonDesign

The University of Alabama partnered with FOS of CannonDesign to conduct a pilot assessment for ADA compliance across a selection of its campus buildings. The challenge was to develop a collaborative assessment approach that would satisfy the criteria of all major university departments ahead of a planned campus-wide evaluation.

FOS of CannonDesign performed the assessment in accordance with DOJ guidelines, which included field measurements, code analysis, and detailed corrective recommendations with multiple options. Their in-house team provided granular line-item cost estimates based on local knowledge rather than generic data. This initial pilot successfully informed the scope for a subsequent campus-wide Phase II assessment planned for the future.
