Case Study: US Department of Defense achieves continuous CORA readiness with Forward Networks

US Department of Defense boosts CORA readiness in as little as 30 days with Forward Networks

The US Department of Defense (DoD) faced a major strategic challenge when it shifted its network defense paradigm from a static compliance model to a dynamic, threat-informed Cyber Operational Readiness Assessment (CORA). This new framework required continuous, risk-focused cyber resilience, rendering the DoD's formerly manual audit preparation processes inadequate and inefficient. To modernize its defense of the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN), the DoD required a novel technological solution, which they found with Forward Networks and its Forward Enterprise Digital Twin Platform.

Forward Networks implemented its digital twin solution to provide continuous visibility and predictive risk modeling. The platform automated STIG compliance verification, simulated threats using the MITRE ATT&CK framework, and enabled dynamic risk modeling. This allowed the DoD to achieve continuous CORA readiness, significantly reducing the manual effort required for audit preparation. The solution provided automated artifact generation, streamlined reporting, and a centralized source of truth, transforming CORA preparation from a resource-draining scramble into a validated, day-to-day operational status for the US Department of Defense.
