Evergy secures 20 million daily Smart Grid transactions with Forum Systems

Evergy, an American energy company providing power to over 1.5 million customers, faced the challenge of securing the massive volume of data transmissions from its new Smart Grid technologies. These technologies relied on SOAP and REST APIs for two-way communication, presenting a significant security challenge across multiple network boundaries. To address this, Evergy turned to vendor Forum Systems and its product, Forum Sentry.

Forum Systems implemented Forum Sentry as an API Security Gateway to secure the Smart Grid APIs and as a SAML 2.0 Identity Provider to enable secure single sign-on for customers accessing an external SaaS application. This solution ensured the security of over 20 million daily Smart Grid data transactions and provided customers with secure access to view their power usage and billing information.
