A Fortra Case Study
Trailer Transit, a Porter, Indiana–based trailer transportation company with about 40 staff and 300 trucks, relied on an IBM i System i 810 for core applications and e-mail. Although IBM i rarely gets infected, the company discovered it could act as a carrier: viruses reaching its System i e-mail server spread to Intel servers and employee PCs, causing slowdowns and at least one network outage that disrupted loading, dispatch and revenue generation.
On a consultant's recommendation they deployed Stand Guard Anti‑Virus (McAfee engine) and Stand Guard Network Security, enabled inbound/outbound e‑mail scanning and ran a full IFS scan that removed more than 300 viruses. Network security rules restricted access by address and port and added monitoring, delivering a low‑maintenance solution that eliminated infections, restored performance, and produced zero downtime.
