VocaLink Mitigates Risks Associated with Application Development

VocaLink is the backbone of the UK’s payment system, processing tens of millions of transactions daily for hundreds of banks and over 100,000 organisations. During a major redevelopment to new server technology, a two-person capacity team needed better monitoring, drill-down diagnostics, historical context and accurate test environments to identify resource-heavy applications, maximize new hardware investments and avoid service disruptions that could affect thousands of customers.

After a successful proof of concept, VocaLink deployed Vityl Capacity Management, which delivered intuitive monitoring, detailed performance data for capacity planning, and fast alerts (notably detecting a stopped Oracle instance within a minute). The tool helped predict performance, optimize hardware use, verify new applications before go-live, and uncover CPU bottlenecks—maximizing hardware benefits, preventing user impact, and giving the team the confidence to move forward.
