Victaulic makes Short Work of Ad Hoc Queries with Surveyor/400

Victaulic, a global manufacturer headquartered in Easton, PA with about 2,500 employees, was struggling with an escalating backlog of ad hoc queries and reports from business users. Its small IT team (six people supporting ~1,000 users across dozens of servers and an 850 GB DB2 production environment) was spending excessive time creating one-off extracts, threatening development capacity and business responsiveness. The company needed a way for users to access and download data themselves without compromising security or data integrity.

Victaulic implemented HelpSystems’ Surveyor/400, a fast-to-install tool with SQL editor/wizard, IFS and spool-file access, export wizards (Excel/CSV/XML), object filters, and granular security controls. The product quickly paid for itself by freeing disk space and avoiding new hardware, and it dramatically reduced IT’s workload: super users now self-serve, developers can produce quick SQL procedures for others, the team handles roughly 40–50 help tickets weekly, and two programmers generated 133 and 200 queries last year while maintaining other duties. Surveyor/400 also improved audit/reporting, simplified updates, and delivered responsive vendor support.
