University of British Columbia’s Network Goes the Distance with InterMapper

The University of British Columbia’s Fraser Medical Program delivers required medical instruction to students placed in remote hospitals and clinics across British Columbia using video-conferencing. To maintain accreditation and avoid disruptive class outages, UBC needed reliable, real-time visibility into network quality of service (jitter, latency, packet loss) across a large, distributed network.

UBC deployed Intermapper and Intermapper Remote Access, adding an IP SLA probe and more than 100 network maps to monitor video-conference endpoints, switches, and routers. More than 80 staff now use real-time data to troubleshoot remotely; the system monitors thousands of devices, supports 40,000 students province-wide, reduced resolution time, and replaced a costlier tool while keeping distance education running smoothly.
