Skidmore Sales & Distributing, a privately held food-ingredient broker founded in 1963 with ~50 employees, 18 warehouses and 1,400 customers, faced growing challenges managing large volumes of quality and compliance documents (MSDS, C of A, allergen and kosher certificates, etc.). Paper-based workflows and a cumbersome scanning system that didn’t integrate with its IBM i ERP led to errors, lost paperwork, customer penalties and rising labor costs as the business expanded.

Skidmore implemented Webdocs from HelpSystems, quickly integrating it with their IBM i ERP to auto-index documents by PO and populate fields from the ERP. The solution eliminated manual data-entry errors, enabled multiple staff to index documents, automated assembly and email distribution of shipment paperwork, sped price-notification distribution from ~1.5 days to 15–20 minutes, streamlined multi-bin printing for pickers and effectively ended lost documents—while HelpSystems’ AS/400 expertise smoothed integration.
