A Fortra Case Study
Security Mutual Life Insurance Company, founded in 1886 and now managing more than $1.9 billion in assets and $29 billion of life insurance in force, needed a better way to extract and deliver data from its Genelco LSP application database. Relying on SQL/400 and RPG made reporting slow and hard to maintain, and the company sought faster ad-hoc reporting, robust date/string handling, deduplication, browser-based access, drill-down capabilities, and automated nightly distribution of reports and Excel files.
They implemented SEQUEL to simplify data extraction and reporting—using conditional processing, date conversion, UNIQUE KEY deduplication, Viewpoint’s drag-and-drop, the SEQUEL Web Interface, run-time prompts, scripting and e-mail distribution. The result was much faster ad-hoc response times (one report delivered in five minutes), automated nightly report/Excel delivery, easier developer onboarding, seamless integration with RPG/CL, and versatile, browser-accessible management reports that improved productivity and user satisfaction.
