Medical Mutual, the oldest and largest Ohio-based health insurer and a $1 billion company, needed reliable, centralized automation and monitoring across a complex, multi-platform IT environment (IBM mainframe and IBM i, Power Systems, Windows, UNIX/Linux, and Oracle). With a 24/7 operations staff responsible for coordinating jobs, data refreshes, and change management across partitions and distributed servers, the challenge was to eliminate manual handoffs, catch outages quickly, and ensure up-to-date data for development and production systems.
Medical Mutual implemented HelpSystems’ Robot suite — including Robot NETWORK, CONSOLE, SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE Enterprise, ALERT and others — to create a Status Center, cross-system reactivity, automated job movement, and event-triggered scheduling across 29 distributed agents. Integration with SMTP and HP OpenView automated ticket creation and a three-step issue-handling workflow; Robot tools also handle data refreshes and partition-to-partition job promotion. The result was simplified, dependable monitoring, fewer missed outages, streamlined operations, and reduced manual intervention, backed by ongoing HelpSystems training and support.
