Prime Therapeutics Trusts Robot Save With 7.5 Million Lives

Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefits manager serving 75 million covered lives and processing roughly 60 million claims a year, needed a reliable, automated backup and recovery strategy for its distributed IBM i environment (primary systems in Texas and a secondary site in Eagan). The challenge was to meet 99.9% availability SLAs while running large daily/weekly/monthly backups, supporting remote operations with minimal on-site staff, and migrating to automated media libraries without disrupting critical claims processing.

Using HelpSystems’ Robot Save and Robot Schedule with IBM 3494 automated media libraries, Prime mirrored data between sites, automated cross-system backups, and leveraged features like the object archive, Add Undefined Libraries, and Alternate Backup Set. The result: consistent 700 GB backups across sites, remote backups that require only tape loading/unloading, role swaps under 10 minutes, a drop from 23 tapes/day to a single 3592E tape, faster restores, lower costs, and greater operational confidence for their 75 million members.
