A Fortra Case Study
A publicly traded pharmacy benefit management company serving more than 30 million people faced strict HIPAA and audit requirements but found IBM i’s native security insufficient for its needs. With about 30,000 user profiles and a mix of internal and external access (pharmacies and insurer customers needing limited views), the company needed fine‑grained access controls, tighter protection of IBM i exit points, and easier, auditable reporting to satisfy demanding auditors.
The company deployed the Powertech suite—Network Security, Command Security, Power Admin, Authority Broker and Compliance Monitor—to lock down interfaces and exit points, centralize profile creation and management, and aggregate audit data for reporting. The results: creating 300 profiles dropped from more than five days to about one hour, profile errors fell by roughly 90–95%, access was controlled down to library/object levels, and the organization now meets HIPAA and audit requirements more efficiently with reduced administrative overhead.
