Portmade NV Saves Time and Labour Creating Customs Declarations with Automate

Portmade NV, a customs and logistics specialist serving the Benelux region, needed a faster, more accurate way to create customs declarations from a mix of structured and unstructured customer data. Using manual processes and software that struggled with PDFs and other non-structured files, the company faced heavy data-entry workload and risk of errors. Portmade NV turned to Fortra’s Automate and Automate Desktop to improve customs form processing and reduce manual handling.

Fortra implemented Automate Intelligent Capture and upgraded Portmade NV to Automate Plus, enabling OCR-based extraction from PDFs and emails, XML conversion, and automated data transfer into its customs systems. The result was a more flexible, cost-effective automation workflow that saves an estimated 7,400 labour hours per year, equivalent to more than 3.5 full-time employees, while improving declaration accuracy and speeding up customer connections.
