Case Study: Trailer Transit achieves a virus-free IBM i and uninterrupted operations with Fortra's StandGuard Anti‑Virus & Network Security

A Fortra Case Study

Preview of the Trailer Transit Case Study

Leading trailer transportation provider uses StandGuard Anti-Virus to eliminate viruses at the point of entry and StandGuard Network Security to enforce policies

Trailer Transit, Inc., a Porter, Indiana–based trailer transportation company (founded 1981, ~40 employees, 300 trucks, ~$50M annual business) runs its core operations on an IBM System i model 810. Although IBM i is rarely infected, Trailer Transit discovered its System i–based e-mail server was acting as a carrier for malware that spread to Intel servers and employee PCs, causing network slowdowns and disruptive downtime that affected loading and dispatch operations.

On the recommendation of a consultant, Trailer Transit deployed Bytware’s StandGuard Anti-Virus and StandGuard Network Security, enabling inbound/outbound e-mail scanning, a full IFS sweep (which removed more than 300 viruses), and fine‑grained access controls and monitoring. The result: a clean IFS, fewer disruptions, faster PCs, and tightened, low‑maintenance security that prevents unauthorized access without impeding daily operations.
