A Fortra Case Study
One of North America’s largest natural gas producers—operating about 14,000 workstations and 400 Citrix servers—needed to share massive, sensitive seismic and engineering data with hundreds of contractors and partners but feared data loss. Existing Citrix access let users launch other network-capable applications and required costly customization of each published app (or an expensive split-farm alternative) to prevent misuse, creating a major security and operational challenge.
Fortra’s Digital Guardian implemented context-aware data classification and endpoint agents on the virtual Citrix desktops and servers to enforce policies that allow only approved uses and block unauthorized executables, with automatic encryption for protected files. The solution gave full visibility and auditing without harming productivity, eliminated the need for split farms or per-app customization, and saved the company more than $4 million in hardware, software, and physical security costs.
