Whayne Supply Company, a Caterpillar dealer in Louisville, Kentucky, relied on an IBM System i to run its dealer business system (DBS) but faced a “mountain” of costly, manual job scheduling and batch processing that was difficult to manage. After initial hesitation, the IT team recognized the need to automate to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
They implemented HelpSystems’ automation suite—Robot SCHEDULE, Robot ALERT, Robot CONSOLE, and Robot AUTOTUNE—combined with instructor-led and Caterpillar-specific training (including online sessions). Whayne rebuilt its schedule to use the full Robot SCHEDULE feature set; today their System i operations run unattended, batch and payroll are reliable, staff efficiency has improved, and Whayne has become a go‑to example for other Caterpillar dealers.
