HelpSystems Cures a Document Dilemma at Midwest Health Systems Data Center

Midwest Health System (MHS) Data Center, a Hays, Kansas–based provider supporting 29 rural hospitals, faced a document-management dilemma after affiliated hospitals needed to retain their IBM i–based MedSeries4 systems and centralize billing. Centralized billing required immediate, networked access to scanned insurance cards and registration documents across remote sites, and the data center demanded an IBM i–native solution that integrated with MedSeries4, automated workflows, was easy for nontechnical staff to install and use, and met strict HIPAA security requirements.

MHS deployed HelpSystems’ Webdocs on IBM i, quickly integrating it with MedSeries4 to automate verification of insurance cards during registration, provide browser access with IBM i single sign-on, and simplify scanning and indexing. The result was a viable central billing operation with improved staffing, stronger security and lower total cost of ownership thanks to unlimited desktop licensing; within months MHS expanded Webdocs to store operations manuals, legacy records, and explore pharmacy workflow automation.
