A Fortra Case Study
A Formula 1 racing team faced the risk of competitors stealing sensitive R&D data—telemetry, CAD drawings and engineering files—stored across its European research center and on laptops in a mobile IT infrastructure at some 20 race venues worldwide. The team needed to ensure unfettered access for authorized users while preventing electronic exfiltration or copying to removable drives, monitoring all actions (including privileged users), and supporting multiple scientific data types.
Fortra’s Digital Guardian was deployed on all Windows and Linux endpoints, including the team’s mobile systems, using kernel-level agents and policies to block, log, alert and prompt users for justifications on exceptions; built-in discovery and investigative reports provided forensics. The deployment delivered visibility and control over data movement, identified the breach, produced evidentiary-quality logs used in legal action, resulted in the perpetrator’s dismissal and imprisonment, and a $100 million fine against the rival team.
