Financial Service Firm Prevents Email Data Leaks with Secure Email Gateway

A Financial Service Firm needed a better way to prevent email data leaks after moving to Microsoft Exchange Online and using Microsoft Outlook, while its legacy Symantec email security tools remained on-premises. The old setup made outbound email workflows convoluted and risky, especially since the firm handles sensitive data, including PII and trade secrets, across thousands of trusted domains. Fortra helped address this with its cloud-native secure email gateway (SEG) as part of Fortra CASB.

Fortra deployed the SEG in line with the firm’s cloud-hosted email flow, eliminating the need to backhaul messages to a data center for policy enforcement. This dramatically simplified the network design and removed inefficient traffic routing, while maintaining protection for outbound email data. The result was a more efficient cloud email security model with reduced complexity and less strain on on-premises infrastructure.
