A Fortra Case Study
Fike Corporation, a manufacturer of process and life‑safety products, was running JD Edwards World on IBM System i and needed a simpler way to distribute spooled output and refresh test systems for a smaller subsidiary. Setting up printers and output queues for each System i wasn’t practical, and they wanted to e-mail spooled files without changing System i programs and speed up data refreshes that relied on slow backup tapes.
They deployed ESEND from Help/Systems to route System i spooled data via e-mail or FTP and to transfer files ad hoc. ESEND let them e-mail spooled files without modifying forms, cut a production-to-test refresh from nearly an hour to under 15 minutes, and was implemented in weeks with strong pre‑ and post‑sales support.
