Concrete Producer Keeps Trucks Rolling by Automate-ing Event Log Monitoring

St. Marys Canada Building Materials (CBM), a division of St. Marys Cement serving Ontario with a fleet of more than 400 ready‑mix trucks, needed timely visibility into vehicle tracking data used by COMMANDconcrete. Network outages, virtual serial driver or receiver failures, and radio transmitter issues could interrupt location reporting, but manually checking Windows Event Logs across multiple servers was impractical and left dispatchers blind until plant managers reported problems.

CBM implemented HelpSystems’ AutoMate Professional to monitor the Windows Event Log and trigger automated email alerts. A systems analyst built Event Log–triggered workflows using drag‑and‑drop tasks in about 20 minutes, enabling automatic detection of network/serial/receiver failures, delayed messages, and duplicate IDs. The result: immediate notifications, faster problem resolution, fewer tracking outages, improved dispatch reliability, and elimination of fragile custom batch scripts.
