Children's Museum Creates One-of-a-Kind Interactive Exhibit Using Automate

The Children's Museum of Science and Technology in Troy, NY wanted a hands-on weather-forecast exhibit where kids and parents could record and replay a live-style forecast, but the experience required about 10 precisely timed steps that very young children couldn't follow and the museum couldn't staff. President and CEO John Graydon Smith needed a way to make the exhibit truly interactive and foolproof without dedicating full-time personnel.

84West’s Bob Maloch and technologist Malcom Murphy evaluated several automation packages, selected Automate, and integrated it with video software to prototype and deploy the system in under a month. The result is a completely automated, easy-to-use exhibit that “dummy-proofs” the process so even very young children can participate, delighting visitors and creating new business opportunities as other museums and corporations express interest in similar interactive displays.
