Centralized Privileged User Authentication and Authorization Management

A top-five global bank faced serious identity and access management issues uncovered by auditors: dormant user accounts weren't being disabled, non-personal privileged accounts (NPAs) weren't tied to real people, and hundreds of administrators shared privileged passwords so actions couldn't be tracked or controlled. Their LDAP-based system handled personal accounts but could not manage NPAs or automate required 30–60 day password rotations across thousands of Unix/Linux servers, creating large operational burdens and compliance gaps.

The bank deployed Powertech Identity & Access Manager (BoKS) to centralize privileged authentication and authorization, synchronize NPAs with LDAP (and HR), and automate provisioning/deprovisioning and password rotation. The solution eliminated shared passwords, enforced granular access controls by server, source, protocol and command, consolidated activity and keystroke logs for simplified auditing, standardized naming and host groups, and significantly reduced administrative effort—resulting in a centralized console, enforced root-account control, and streamlined compliance reporting.
