Large Oil and Gas Company Protects HR Data After Cloud Migration

A large oil and gas utility in southeast Europe with more than 11,000 employees needed to migrate its SAP-based HR (HCM) systems to the public cloud while meeting strict privacy and compliance requirements. The IT team faced integration challenges with existing security tools (SAP IAS, Fortra Data Classification, ArcSight), the need for granular access controls by role/device/location, GDPR and other national data-privacy laws, and the risk of malware or unauthorized uploads and downloads.

They deployed Fortra CASB with advanced DLP and data classification, implemented role- and device-based policies (reverse-proxy enforcement), and used a Key Management System that kept encryption keys on-premises. As a result, sensitive HR PII is encrypted in the cloud with on-premises key custody, malware and unauthorized file movements are blocked by DLP and scanning, and the company achieved the required security and compliance controls for its cloud HCM rollout.
