Clicks Group Ltd, South Africa’s largest retail pharmacy and health and beauty chain, faced rapid sales, SKU, and volume growth that created inefficiencies in stores and distribution centres. Shop assistants spent too much time restocking, DC productivity was low, and rising transport and space constraints threatened profitability. Clicks worked with Fortna® and its distribution operations challenge centered on improving service and productivity without major capital investment.

Fortna® analyzed SKU velocities, storage capacity, order profiles, and processes, then redesigned storage media, increased pick-face capacity to hold six days of inventory, re-slotted the DC by velocity, and added a slotting tool for ongoing optimization. The results included delaying a new facility by up to two years and saving R24 million in capex, improving replenishment efficiency by 40%, lifting tote utilization from 68% to 85%, and generating R1.2 million in yearly transportation savings, with at least 80% of tote bins arriving store-ready.
