A leading discount department store was growing rapidly, but its single Midwest distribution center was already at 90% capacity and struggling to keep up, especially during peak season. As inventory overflowed and shipments to stores ran late, the retailer risked missed sales, markdowns, and service issues. Fortna was brought in to help address the capacity crunch with a new distribution solution.

Fortna designed and implemented a new automated greenfield DC with Put-to-Light lanes, a garment-on-hanger sorter, Print and Apply lines, and a dual-use sorter for receiving and shipping. The new facility enabled 2x growth, exceeded the targeted 12% productivity improvement, eliminated peak-season back-ups, and improved delivery speed and transportation efficiency.
