Hannover Life Re of Australasia Tackles Insurance Fraud With Fortiro

Hannover Life Re of Australasia (HLR Aus) faced a significant challenge with undetected fraud in its Total Permanent Disability and Income Protection insurance claims. The complexity of claims and a reliance on manual reviews meant sophisticated, fraudulent documents were often going unnoticed. To tackle this, HLR Aus initiated a collaboration with Fortiro to enhance its fraud detection capabilities using the vendor's technology.

HLR Aus conducted a proof of concept with Fortiro, which analyzed 84 historical claims. The solution, Fortiro Protect, uses automated content, layout, and digital analysis to verify documents. The pilot identified suspicious flags in 13 documents, leading to three confirmed fraud cases and three more with potential alterations, demonstrating the tool's efficiency. This success led HLR Aus to fully implement Fortiro's suite, strengthening its fraud detection, saving potential financial losses, and earning a prestigious industry award for the project.
