WeLab Uses Fortinet on AWS to Build Virtual Bank and Ensure Compliance

WeLab, a fintech serving over 42 million users across Hong Kong, Mainland China and Indonesia, prepared to launch one of Hong Kong’s first virtual banks and faced the dual challenge of rapidly scaling in the cloud while meeting strict financial‑services regulations for data protection and security. The team wanted to focus on banking innovation rather than building and managing physical infrastructure.

WeLab ran its virtual bank on AWS and deployed Fortinet’s Security Fabric (FortiGate VM, FortiWeb VM, FortiMail VM and FortiSandbox) to provide firewall, web app, email and advanced threat protection. The combined solution enabled the bank to go live in under a year, saved development time (about two months), improved protection of customer financial data, and gave greater visibility and scalability across its AWS environment.
