Vancouver Public Schools district enhances IT security with TierPoint and Fortinet

Vancouver Public Schools (VPS), Washington’s seventh-largest district serving over 22,000 students, needed to modernize and consolidate its security for district-managed devices and a large BYOD environment while meeting federal CIPA requirements. With aging appliances, a growing one-to-one initiative, and the need for easier administration, VPS engaged TierPoint for managed security expertise.

TierPoint deployed a Fortinet solution—FortiGate 1000C/100D appliances, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer (VM), and FortiClient licenses—using remote web proxying, a captive portal and TCP fingerprinting to enforce web filtering, application control, VPNs and endpoint protection. The consolidation into a redundant HA Fortinet platform delivered single-pane management, CIPA-compliant remote filtering for thousands of iPads and laptops, reduced support costs, improved uptime, and a scalable foundation for continued one-to-one expansion.
