A Fortinet Case Study
The Canton of Jura, a Swiss public administration serving about 70,000 citizens across 50 sites, faced growing email-security problems: an inefficient open-source gateway that let increasing spam and malware through, frequent delivery incidents, complex administration, and the need to provide segregated messaging services and high availability for para-public partners like hospitals and emergency services.
Jura replaced its gateway with two FortiMail clusters—two FortiMail-400B appliances for internal mail (1,500 accounts, ~180,000 emails filtered daily) and two FortiMail-100 appliances for external partners (blocking roughly 5,000 viruses/month). The appliances were deployed quickly with minimal user impact, use web-based management and wizards, require under eight hours/year of maintenance, let users self-release false positives, and have sharply reduced incidents while meeting the canton’s availability and management goals.
