Preview of the Region Stockholm Case Study

Sweden’s Largest Regional Health Provider Secures Its Services With Increased Performance and Reliability at Lower Cost

Region Stockholm, one of Europe’s largest regional healthcare providers, is responsible for public healthcare for 2 million residents across 1,200 local medical centers, four major hospitals and a 50,000-strong workforce. Protecting detailed medical records and ensuring high-performance, reliable connectivity for critical care equipment and hundreds of clinical systems was essential, but the incumbent network security setup could not meet availability, scalability or management needs.

Region Stockholm replaced its legacy stack with Fortinet’s FortiGate NGFWs, plus FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, consolidating multiple security functions into high-speed appliances and increasing bandwidth to dual 10 GB links. The deployment delivered a 20x capacity increase, achieved 99.999% availability, centralized management of 48 NGFWs for faster issue resolution, improved adaptive segmentation to prevent lateral spread, and lowered total cost of ownership to roughly one-third of the previous investment.
