A Fortinet Case Study
Summit Public Schools is a network of 11 charter schools focused on personalized, project-based learning and issues every student a Chromebook. With an Internet‑intensive curriculum and hundreds of devices, the district found its legacy firewall capping throughput at about 80 Mbps while they needed 150 Mbps, and required stronger protections to prevent malware and meet CIPA/E‑Rate requirements without resorting to heavy-handed site blocking.
Summit deployed a Fortinet FortiGate as part of a multi‑tiered security stack (OpenDNS, a Chromebook security extension and FortiAnalyzer). FortiGate reliably handled the required throughput, provided content filtering and CIPA compliance, and FortiAnalyzer gave actionable traffic insights used to encourage productive behavior. The outcome was a secure, low‑latency environment that preserves broad Internet access for student exploration, scales with future needs, and positions technology as an enabler of personalized learning.
