Spanish Renewable Energy Company Sets New Industry Benchmark for Secure OT/IT Convergence in the Cloud

Capital Energy is a 20‑year‑old Spanish renewable energy company with 16 offices and wind and solar projects across Spain and Portugal, expanding into green hydrogen, data centers and telecoms. Facing rapidly changing markets and a complex, distributed IT/OT estate—multiple vendors, widespread remote sites and third‑party contractor access—the company needed a highly scalable, secure, cloud‑centric network to support ongoing innovation while minimizing operational and ESG risks.

Working with Google Cloud, Capital Energy deployed Fortinet’s Security Fabric and SD‑Branch stack—FortiGate NGFWs and Secure SD‑WAN, FortiSwitch/FortiAP, FortiClient/FortiAuthenticator, FortiManager, FortiSIEM and FortiAnalyzer—to deliver zero‑trust access, two‑factor authentication, zero‑touch provisioning and unified policy enforcement across on‑premises and cloud environments. The solution increased access and OT data acquisition security, improved visibility and simplified administration, enabled hybrid cloud SCADA migration and scalable projects such as battery energy storage, and established a new industry benchmark for secure OT/IT convergence.
