Secure High-Performance School in a Box Solution for One of Cheshire’s Top Primaries

Gorsey Bank Primary School, a high‑performing primary in Wilmslow educating 420 pupils, needed to upgrade its aging wireless LAN after increasing use of video, rich-media teaching materials and more than 120 mobile devices caused frequent performance bottlenecks on its 10 Mbps PSN internet feed. With smartboards, Apple TVs and plans for Chromebooks, the school sought a more secure, scalable wireless solution with transparent management to protect students and support growing digital learning demands.

Working with Exertis UK, GBPS deployed a Fortinet solution built around a FortiGate 100D firewall/controller managing 18 FortiAP 221C 802.11ac access points and a FortiSwitch 224FPOE. The single GUI delivers integrated firewall, antivirus, web filtering and threat intelligence plus QoS and network segmentation, resulting in noticeably higher throughput, easier security management, protected users, and confidence that the network can scale to support future devices and initiatives.
