Case Study: Salt Lake City achieves secure, low-cost outdoor Wi‑Fi at the Regional Athletic Complex with Fortinet FortiGate

A Fortinet Case Study

Preview of the Salt Lake City Case Study

Salt Lake City - Customer Case Study

Salt Lake City Corporation brought Wi‑Fi to its 140‑acre Regional Athletic Complex—16 soccer/multipurpose fields used for city programs and public rentals—but faced tight budgets, a limited 100 Mbps Internet pipe and a need for strong security, application controls and easy operations for a free public service. They wanted a single vendor to avoid finger‑pointing and a solution that would be economical to run and simple to manage.

SLCC deployed a consolidated Fortinet solution—one FortiGate 200D POE plus eight FortiAP 222C access points over dark fiber—bringing the network online in three days. The unified platform delivered IPS, URL filtering, antivirus and granular application control (prioritizing or throttling traffic), reduced management complexity and operating costs, enabled HD streaming at site edges while protecting users from threats, and produced an affordable, replicable blueprint for future parks projects.
