Safeguarding United Learning from the Evolving Threat Landscape

United Learning is a UK group of more than 70 academies and independent schools serving over 45,000 students. As the trust moves to a Cloud First model and Office365 for user data, its distributed estate of staff and student devices — and the high volume of email-based attacks that target them — exposed significant security gaps, compounded by constrained budgets and limited in-house cloud security expertise.

Working with Fortinet and partner TNP, United Learning deployed FortiGate (VM and appliance), FortiManager-VM and FortiAnalyzer-VM to provide Layer 7 firewalling, centralized logging and web filtering, and SD‑WAN/ADVPN connectivity into Azure. The rollout, pre-staged and remotely cut over, delivered improved visibility and automated threat response across all sites, more secure connections between schools and the internet, reduced configuration times and costs, and a stronger foundation for the trust’s cloud transformation.
