Premier Romanian Bank Achieves 50% Reduction in Application Response Times With FortiGate Secure SD-WAN

CEC Bank, Romania’s oldest retail bank with nearly 1,000 branches, was rapidly digitizing—launching 100% online onboarding, a new customer portal and increased cloud adoption—which drove massive growth in email, video meetings and electronic documents. Its legacy MPLS WAN became too slow and unreliable to support both legacy and cloud services, and the IT team needed a more flexible, secure, and centrally managed network that could scale with limited specialized staff.

The bank deployed Fortinet’s FortiGate Secure SD-WAN with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer (Fabric Management Center), using zero-touch provisioning to roll out to ~1,000 branches in about six months. The new solution delivered an 8x increase in available bandwidth, a 50% reduction in application response times, greatly reduced operational complexity, and enabled faster delivery of new online services, boosting efficiency and profitability.
