Peruvian Telecommunications Company Deploys Highly Secure Satellite Connectivity Infrastructure in Remote Areas

Internet Para Todos (IPT) is a Peruvian rural mobile infrastructure operator that builds and runs shared 4G/2G networks to bring connectivity to underserved communities. With thousands of sites and more than 3.7 million people now on 4G, IPT turned to low-orbit satellite links to reach the most remote stations — but those links terminated over the public internet, creating security and SLA concerns that required a cost-conscious, scalable way to protect end-to-end traffic.

IPT deployed Fortinet FortiGate next‑generation firewalls at its central hub and at remote sites (65 deployed to date), using VXLAN over IPsec dial-up VPNs to create secure tunnels over the satellite paths. The result is secure, centrally managed satellite connectivity without expensive dedicated circuits, a scalable model (targeting ~300 satellite sites in 2024 and full rollout by 2026), and a cost-effective platform that protects current services while enabling future expansion.
