National Benefit Services (NBS) is a national retirement and flexible benefits administrator serving 20,000 employers with about 250 employees. As NBS expanded its carrier integrations and online HSA services, it became a prime target for sophisticated attacks—receiving 15–20 targeted threats per week—while relying on a small IT team that spent excessive time remediating incidents. To meet enterprise-class security requirements for new business partners, NBS needed stronger, yet manageable, protections.

NBS deployed a Fortinet FortiGate next‑generation firewall (IPS, application control, web/email filtering and SSL inspection) and integrated FortiSandbox for deep threat analysis. Suspect traffic is routed to the sandbox for fast verification and remediation; the deployment immediately identified infected client submissions and even caught 16 suspicious files during evaluation. The solution freed up two full‑time IT staff, raised the company’s security posture to support larger partners and new revenue opportunities, and significantly reduced breach risk.
