Nagasaki School Leaders Choose FortiEDR to Protect Their District from Ransomware

The Nagasaki Prefectural Office of Education, implementing Japan’s GIGA initiative to provide devices and high‑speed connectivity across remote islands and mainland schools, faced a growing ransomware threat and new MEXT security guidelines that expanded their attack surface and required stronger endpoint protections—yet they needed a solution that balanced usability and budget. Conventional antivirus was seen as insufficient and a renewal deadline added urgency to find an affordable EDR option.

The prefecture selected FortiEDR (alongside existing Fortinet products) for its cost-effectiveness and remote deployment capability, rolling it out to over 4,000 teacher and staff PCs across 79 schools. The deployment delivered easy Japanese-language management, ransomware rollback/recovery, fewer performance issues and clearer visibility into endpoint/app status—improving security without raising costs and enabling plans for deeper product integration and a zero‑trust architecture.
