Ministry of Education’s New Perimeter Security Solution Boosts Performance and Protection

The General Directorate of Information Technology (DGTI) for Jalisco’s Ministry of Education, which supports more than 10,000 users across 13 branches and 15 sub-branches, faced frequent perimeter firewall saturation, service interruptions, slow access to internet and institutional apps, and overly complex administrative policies. The agency needed better control of its network edge and a simplified, more reliable way to manage user access and security.

DGTI deployed two FortiGate next‑generation firewalls in high‑availability clusters and FortiAnalyzer in its main data center, gaining integrated firewall, IPS, DDoS protection, SSO, VPN inspection, traffic shaping and centralized reporting. The upgrade raised monthly availability from 98.9% to 99.99%, eliminated saturations and failures, sped up internet and application access, cut access‑management response time from 24 hours to 15 minutes, and saved roughly 60 support hours per month while improving visibility and incident resolution.
