Miami Marlins Ballpark Uses Game-Changing Network Access Control Throughout the Venue

Marlins Park, home of the Miami Marlins, is a 37,400‑seat, technology‑driven ballpark with thousands of connected devices and more than 7,000 Ethernet ports supporting everything from ATMs and menu boards to POS terminals and broadcast crews. The multi‑use, highly dynamic facility faced a major challenge: how to securely provision and manage a vast, constantly moving set of devices and media connections while blocking rogue equipment and minimizing manual IT intervention.

The team deployed Fortinet’s network access control (NAC) to gain visibility and automated policy‑based control over every port and device — including 500+ public media ports — so equipment is auto‑recognized, placed on the correct VLAN, and granted appropriate access wherever it’s plugged in. The solution instantly detects and blocks rogue devices, enables TV crews and vendors to self‑service network access, reduces staffing required for events, and is being expanded to cover wireless access and chargeback reporting.
