Improving Safety and Increasing Efficiency with a Fortinet VoIP Solution

Cabarrus County Schools (CCS), a rapidly growing district near Charlotte serving 32,000 students across 40 schools, faced frequent failures and campus-wide outages from a 20-year-old Mitel phone system that sometimes prevented emergency calls. A hosted replacement was prohibitively expensive, so the district needed a centralized, scalable, redundant telephony solution on a tight timeline.

Fortinet won the contract and deployed a VM-based FortiVoice/FortiFone solution with FortiGate integration and survivable gateways, supported by Fortinet Professional Services and FortiCare. After six months the district saw fewer outages, lower line and licensing costs by consolidating 5,000 daily external calls, and improved productivity with five-digit dialing, eFax, voicemail-to-email and caller ID—making IT management and staff communication faster and more reliable.
