A Fortinet Case Study
The Langham, Melbourne — a 25‑floor, five‑star hotel with 387 rooms and extensive event facilities — needed reliable, pervasive Wi‑Fi to meet guests’ growing numbers of wireless devices and high‑density conference use. The hotel’s concrete construction and complex layout made consistent coverage difficult, and the IT team required a solution that would be quick to deploy and easy to manage to minimize downtime and guest disruption.
The hotel deployed a Fortinet WLAN (MC4100 controller and Fortinet AP series) using a single‑channel architecture and external antennas, installing 170 APs with one day of configuration and one day of testing. The network handled 150+ simultaneous users, eliminated channel planning, simplified management and upgrades, reduced monthly guest complaints from about 150 to five within two months, and boosted guest satisfaction while lowering IT workload—enabling new Wi‑Fi–based marketing promotions.
