Grupo Merelec reduces security footprint and advances ISO 27001 with Fortinet

Grupo Merelec, a regional energy conglomerate based in El Salvador, faced the challenge of securing its data centers that support both corporate IT and critical operational technology (OT) networks. These centers were prime targets for cyberattacks and were also subject to damaging high heat and humidity. To address this, Grupo Merelec partnered with Fortinet to implement a security solution.

Fortinet implemented its Security Fabric, which provided an integrated platform designed for OT infrastructures. The solution improved IT and OT security and availability, positioning the data centers for ISO 27001 certification. It also reduced the security equipment footprint and lessened the administrative burden on the IT team, allowing them to shift focus from operations to strategic business contributions.
