Franciscan Health Utilizes Fortinet Security Fabric Solutions to Immunize IoT Medical Devices Against Attack

Franciscan Health, which operates 14 hospitals and more than 350 outpatient sites across Indiana and Illinois, faced a large and growing attack surface: roughly 96,000 endpoints including unmanaged IoT and many legacy medical devices whose outdated firmware and connectivity could be leveraged as entry points. The organization needed to block unauthorized access, detect intrusions quickly, and limit risk from devices it could not manage or patch.

Franciscan deployed Ordr for device discovery and behavioral profiling and integrated it with the Fortinet Security Fabric—FortiGate NGFWs, FortiManager, and FortiNAC—using API-driven automation to enforce microsegmentation and NAC policies. The combined solution delivered near-real-time visibility and centralized threat intelligence (helping them prepare for issues like Log4j), reduced manual configuration work, sped incident response, and materially strengthened the health system’s proactive, future-proofed security posture.
