Case Study: UAE University achieves comprehensive network and email protection for 20,000+ users with Fortinet

A Fortinet Case Study

Preview of the UAE University Case Study

Fortinet secures network and messaging infrastructure

United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), a multi‑campus national university serving 20,000+ users, faced an urgent security overhaul: its firewalls and content services switches were end‑of‑life, the IDS was nonfunctional, there was no SMTP gateway, and the network suffered frequent worm/virus infections and downtime. The university needed a multi‑layered Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution and proactive email protection to provide secure, uninterrupted Internet access for students and staff.

UAEU deployed Fortinet appliances — FortiGate 3600A (2), FortiGate 1000A (2), FortiMail 2000A (2) and FortiAnalyzer — to deliver high‑performance firewalling, multiple DMZs, enterprise antispam/antivirus SMTP gateway and centralized logging and reporting. The rollout gave integrated internal and external protection, robust reporting and troubleshooting, dramatically reduced spam and viruses, and enabled migration of 20,000+ mailboxes to FortiMail in 36 hours with under one minute of downtime.
