Fortinet Helps a Large Educational Services Provider Boost Cybersecurity and Ensure Regulatory Compliance for Its School Districts

Nassau BOCES, the largest Board of Cooperative Educational Services in New York serving 56 school districts and roughly 2,500 staff, needed to strengthen data privacy and security while keeping costs low for its districts. Aging ACL‑based firewalls, increasing east‑west traffic, the shift to cloud and remote work, and New York’s EdLaw 2‑d drove a requirement for better network visibility, segmentation, and regulatory compliance.

Nassau BOCES implemented Fortinet solutions—FortiGate NGFWs with FortiGuard services, Secure SD‑WAN, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiAuthenticator—centralizing management with ADOMs and integrating with its SIEM. The deployment improved east‑west inspection, enabled MFA and network segmentation to meet EdLaw 2‑d, delivered load‑balanced WAN connectivity for distributed work, simplified updates and recovery, and significantly reduced total cost of ownership for the districts.
