Fortinet Brings Network and Application Visibility and Security to Global Leadership Institute

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), a small international institute with offices in Cambridge, Brussels and Cape Town, needed dependable, high-performance perimeter security to support global collaboration. Its aging 3Com firewall delivered poor throughput, limited visibility into applications and time-consuming management, leaving CISL exposed to emerging threats and struggling to ensure a consistent user experience for applications and shared files.

CISL deployed two FortiGate-100D appliances in a high-availability cluster with Fortinet partner Metropolitan Networks, gaining next‑generation firewall, application control, IPS, anti‑virus, URL filtering, identity‑based policy and routing under a single dashboard. The rollout produced dramatically improved visibility, simpler policy management, strong gigabit performance and continuous FortiGuard protection—eliminating downtime during cutover and providing a scalable platform for future features like two‑factor authentication and VPNs.
