A Fortinet Case Study
Canon IT Solutions, the IT services arm of Canon Marketing Japan, runs three data centers and offers tiered hosting (Pro, Select, Virtual) and system-integration services. To add value for customers and meet demands for higher reliability, performance and profitability, the company needed built-in network security—firewalling as a standard feature and optional antivirus/IPS—while avoiding the weak isolation and risk of using a single general-purpose server for multiple tenants.
Canon IT Solutions deployed Fortinet FortiGate appliances (620B for shared Select services and 1240B for Virtual services) using Fortinet’s VDOM virtualization to create multiple independent security domains on a single device. The FortiGate UTM consolidated firewall, antivirus and IPS, reduced points of failure, improved service availability and management, enabled remote customer policy changes, and set the company up to add centralized logging/analysis (FortiAnalyzer) and to use Fortinet solutions in its planned tier‑4 data center and private‑cloud offerings.
